Wednesday 2nd June --- TRAGEDY Newborn Billy is fighting for his life while Sarah recovers from surgery. Audrey joins Gail in her vigil, but words are not exchanged for fear of waking the sleeping Sarah. Todd joins his mum and tells her that there's been no change in the baby's condition. Eileen asks if he's seen him yet, but Todd tells her that Billy's in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and he can't see him until Sarah gives her consent. Eileen urges Todd that there must be something they can do but he tells her the only thing they can do is stay on the premises. He whines: “He's mine as well as hers! She has no right to keep me from him!” Sarah finally starts coming round and Gail soothes her: “Sarah, you've got a lovely baby boy. The nurses say he's beautiful. Do you want us to take you to him?” Sarah doesn't want to see the baby, so Audrey tries talking to her in an attempt to persuade her to take a look at her son. Sarah says she doesn't want him and Martin tells Gail and Audrey that Sarah's very tired and she doesn't know what she's saying. Gail can't understand why Sarah won't go to see Billy but Audrey wisely points out that the probable reason is that the baby is Todd's also. Todd sneaks into Sarah's room and he insists that she take him to see the baby, but she gets hysterical and cries out for him to leave her alone. Just then, Martin comes in and grabs Todd, pulling him away from Sarah. Todd shouts: “I wanna see my son! I've got rights!” Martin tells Todd he doesn't care about his rights but Todd says he just wants to look at the baby as he means as much to him as to Sarah. Todd is frog-marched back to Eileen, who makes him sit down. He cries: “They've thrown me out! They won't let me see him! I don't deserve this! He's mine! They all hate me, I never meant to hurt anyone, I only want to see my son!” Sarah is finally feeling a bit more back to normal and she asks how the baby is. Martin tells her that he's holding his own and he's a fighter and he shows her a snap shot of the baby. Sarah isn't sure that she wants to call him Billy anymore and Gail tells her she can call him whatever she wants. Sarah asks her parents if they've seen him yet and when she hears that they haven't, she's upset that Billy's been on his own all this time. Sarah decides she wants to see him straight away but Martin is hesitant and tells Sarah she needs to rest after the shock Todd caused, and she can see Billy later. Sarah finally goes in to see baby Billy and she is thrilled to see her tiny baby for the first time. She says: “He's so little and tiny! Can I touch him?” The nurse says of course she can as long as she's gentle. Sarah speaks softly to the baby: “Hello darling, I'm your mummy.” Audrey and Gail watch the two bond. Audrey is completely fed up with Gail's attitude towards Todd and she tries to remind her that no matter what, when Billy was conceived, he was conceived in love and at least Todd is staying around because he wants to, not because he has to. Gail can't understand why Audrey is so supportive of Todd after all the heartache he's caused, so Audrey tells her that at least Todd will be around to share some of the load of raising the baby and Sarah will have more of a life. Todd has returned home and is moping about not being able to see Billy. Jason tells him that he'll go along with him next time if he wants, but Todd doesn't know what to do. Just then the phone rings and it's Audrey, who tells Todd that she thinks he should be at the hospital. He anxiously asks her: “Will she let me see him?” Audrey replies: “I think she will now, yes.” Todd thanks Audrey and excitedly hangs up the phone before Audrey's had the chance to tell him about the commotion that's going on right now. Todd is overjoyed and he tells Eileen that he can see the baby. Todd, Eileen and Jason arrive at the hospital and Todd tells them that they won't be able to go any further so they wish him luck and send their love to the baby. |
