Monday 19th July --- BACK ON THE SCENE
Dev goes round to No. 11 looking for Todd because Sunita is clearly not up to working behind the counter in the shop today. Todd comes to the door looking a bit dishevelled and unshaven, like he's let himself go a tad (but still managing to look pretty darn gorgeous I might add). Dev is relieved to find him in: “Todd, just the man! Can you do me a big, big favour? Can you do a few hours this afternoon in the shop?” Todd is a bit surprised and asks: “Are you not frightened I might put your customers off?” Dev has less petty things on his mind to worry about and asks Todd where he got that idea from. Todd says: “Mainly from how relieved you were when I asked for time off.” (which is funny considering that it was Dev that actually suggested it and Todd had no choice but to go home for a few weeks). Anyway, Dev assures Todd that he got it all wrong and he just didn't want him to feel pressured before, then he asks him again and Todd reluctantly agrees.
Sarah has just started working for her gran at the hairdressing salon on a one month trial period. Her and Candice are just heading back to the salon after having lunch in the Rovers when she happens to spot Todd leaving the house to go to the corner shop. He sees Sarah, pauses for a second or two and then, looking slightly embarressed, turns to walk towards the shop. Sarah's snide remark to Candice is: “Oh no. Why doesn't he just move away?” Candice ribs her: “Yeah well, what you gonna do when he comes in for a haircut?” Sarah says he wouldn't dare, trying hard to convince herself that he wouldn't.
Todd arrives in the shop to take over from Sunita, who thanks him for stepping in for her and then goes upstairs to her flat for a rest. Vera is in the shop and when she spots Todd she immediately starts sniping at him: “Oh I see, he's back on the scene is he? The ‘Gay Hussar' or whatever he is. You're not doing yourself any favours you know. Folk won't want to put stuff on the table that's been handled by him.” Dev fights Todd's corner: “Vera, Todd is doing me a great favour. He doesn't need this kind of talk and neither do I.” Todd tells Dev that it doesn't matter but Dev cuts him off: “Yes it does. Now, are you gonna apologise and start behaving or what?” Vera refuses to apologise and makes out that she's just saying what any right-minded person would say when they see Todd back there, so Dev snatches her basket from her and tells her to get out. As Dev starts to lose his temper with Vera, Todd steps in and insists: “Dev, it's okay, honestly. Don't worry Vera, I've washed me hands.” At this, Vera looks a little shamefaced and mutters after Dev as he walks off: “By ‘eck, you know who your friends are round here.” Todd points out: “You do Vera, I found that one out.” So Todd dutifully carries on with his shift behind the counter and coolly deals with the slithering Maya when she comes looking for Sunita and Dev.
She tries calling Dev's mobile but it rings under the counter so Todd picks it up for her, then he casually sips from his empty coffee mug.
Sunday 25th July --- COLD SHOULDER
Martin and Sarah are walking down the street chatting about her new job in the salon. Sarah suddenly stops in her tracks when she looks up to find Todd strolling towards them. He says hi to Sarah but she just puts her head down and walks straight past him. Then Katy emerges from the Harris house and tries to talk to Martin but he ignores her and puts his arm round Sarah's shoulder as they walk off together. Katy and Todd stand there looking rejected and she says to him: “It's just like we don't exist isn't it.”
